Artist Melissa Wineman talks about jewelry, photography

Melissa Wineman is a jewelry maker and artist who will be attending the April 26 Kaleidoscope Cultural Arts Festival in Downtown Kannapolis, N.C.

Where are you located?

“Stanley, N.C.”

How and when did you first get started in art and why?

“When I was a kid my parents were very open to me expressing myself and let me explore and play and now it is my love.”

What art form do you focus on and why?

“A bunch of different forms jewelry,  painting, photography, mixed media and pretty much anything I can get my hands into.”

What’s kept you involved in art and keeps you wanting to practice your craft?

“The love for it how it makes me feel how it makes others feel the responses I get help me continue when I get strayed from my path and creating things make me feel whole as a person.”

What’s your philosophy and style to creating art? “Let the art speak to u even jewelry everything has a place and story to tell just let go and let the piece do all the talking for you.”

What kind of music, if any, do you listen to when you create art? And why do you listen to that particular kind of music when you work?

“A lot of different music all depending on my mood or what I’m working on.”

Have you attended any festivals or have any artwork on display? Also, have you won any awards for your work?

“I attend lots of different festivals in NoDa, Mooresville, Cornelius, Statesville and have artwork hung at Pinky’s in Huntersville and Family Tradition Tattoo in Mooresville and have had art other places more places to come also have my jewelry on constant display for sale at Vintiques (antiques and collectables) in Denver, N.C.”


What’s the most challenging part for you when you are creating new art and how do you work through it? Also, how many pieces of art do you create a month? “Coming up with new ideas is no problem, it’s the initial execution when starting a piece that stumps me sometimes. But I just hang it in my house and walk by it constantly until I get the next move.  I create as much as I can while working full time job.”


What has been your favorite piece you created and why? “All of them because I put my heart and soul into everything I do.”


How have you evolved as an artist and what have you done to help grow as an artist?

“I have slowly learned over the yrs what works what doesn’t for me to stay motivated and always try new .”

What are some art projects you would like to tackle in the future and why?

“So many can’t list them all follow me on Facebook and you will see what things are to come.”
