Want to be a washer wench? Auditions this Saturday!

The Carolina Renaissance Festival’s Village Washer Wenches are holding auditions for new wenches and here is how you can learn to become one.

Audition will be held Saturday June 28th at Petra’s Piano Bar. Doors will open at 10 a.m., auditions will begin at 10:30 a.m.

Audition open to females ages 18 and up, though 21 and up is strongly preferred. We request that only auditionees attend.

The Village Washer Wenches are a high energy music and comedy act dedicated to keeping the bawdy song alive and well. We hope to add at least one wench to our group to perform on a rotating basis with our existing members. Race, Size, Creed, Sexual Orientation, and Age (within our listed minimums) don’t matter to us (and we hope they don’t matter to you either!).

We perform in and around Charlotte on a semi-regular basis, and will be performing weekends in October and November at the Carolina Renaissance Festival in Huntersville. Compensation for performances is available.

No specific dress is required for this audition- you can choose to wear basic black or something that showcases your personality. There is no dance component, but we will be playing several improv games and you will be asked to sing, so wear clothing and shoes you’re comfortable doing light movement in.

You will learn one (very easy) song at auditions as well as a specific prepared piece (please see details in the next paragraph), and we will review both songs as a group before putting you on the spot. Lyric sheets will be available at the venue. We do not require you to be a fabulous singer! We do require that you can generally carry a tune and that you have bold delivery.

We’ll be asking you to sing one of our signature songs, Roll Your Leg Over. We would like you to choose three verses to perform. You may use a lyric sheet if needed. Please try not to use the verses in the video in the link provided below unless they appear on the lyric sheet we provide.

We’ve listed several good traditional verses, but if you’re able to come up with something original of your own, please do! You may also use traditional verses which do not appear on our sheet. We would also love it if at least one of your chosen verses is an insult. There are several you may choose from on the lyric sheet linked below, or you can write your own. You are more than welcome to use us as targets, as well as your fellow auditionees. (Consider yourselves warned!)

IMPORTANT: Please read our open letter to potential auditionees, linked below, and make sure this gig is really for you before you come on out to audition. If you’re still with us after reading that over, we look forward to seeing you! You can also find our Audition Information Form linked below- hard copies will be available at auditions, but if you can fill it out in advance and bring it with you to save time, please do.

If you plan to actually come out and audition, please take a moment to respond accordingly to the question pinned to the top of this event page so we can have an idea of how many to expect.

Please feel free to contact us with questions or concerns by messaging us through our Facebook page at www.facebook.com/villagewasherwenches or by e-mailing VillageWasherWenches@gmail.com with “auditions” in the subject line.

(This particular version admittedly ran a little long, but is the best video we have to hand. You don’t need to watch the ENTIRE thing, but make sure you at least get to the insulting verses.)
