CRAFTS FOR THE HOME with JENNY

Join us for different sessions making crafts for the home. Project ideas for each month will include: door wreaths, wooden painted signs, floral arrangements, rustic signs and more. All materials will be included, but participants may bring embellishments as desired to personalize each craft. These classes are offered through Kannapolis Arts/DKI and Kannapolis Parks and Recreation Department.
Cost: all sessions at $40.00 each

Kannapolis Arts Photographers is organizing a meet up on March 15.

Drop-in, no registration required.

This activity is specifically designed for intermediate and advanced photographers – both hobbyists and professionals. These meet-ups are designed for photographers to share and gain knowledge with other photographers in the area.

The John Gurske Band to perform free show for Kannapolis Jazz Concert Series, May 14

The John Gurske Band will perform from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 14 as part of the City of Kannapolis and Kannapolis Arts jazz concert series.

The concert series is free and will be held in Veterans Park, 118 N. Main Street, Kannapolis.

Other guests featured this concert season include:

April 23 – The Dwayne Jordan Trio

April 30 – Nicci Canada Quartet

May 7 – Brad Bailey (solo)

The concert series is being offered through the City of Kannapolis with the partnership of Kannapolis Arts, a division of a the volunteer organization Downtown Kannapolis Inc.

About the artist:

  • The John Gurske Band: John Gurske graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in 1984 with his Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy. While there, he studied jazz history and performance with the legendary Richard Davis. After a -15 year career in the corporate world, Gurske became Betsy Gurske’s part time business partner with Music.4.Life Kindermusic-Private Lessons in 1999 and joined her full time in 2003, bringing a large clientele of guitar students to the business. As the school expanded through the years, John Gurske created his own Jam Bands program, giving students the vital experience of playing with others in small group settings. He has six jam bands ranging from fifth graders, to high school seniors. Being a uniquely well-rounded musician, he gives students a solid foundation of musicianship, yet adapts his teaching to various students’ tastes in different musical genres. In addition to running the business, teaching guitar, bass, and Jam Bands, John has been active as a jazz guitarist and arranger for many years, and can be seen performing with his trio at several venues in the Charlotte area.

Daytime Painting Class (May 18)

Kannapolis and the City of Kannapolis are offering a daytime painting class at the Kannapolis Train Station.

ADULT PAINTING CLASS

Gather your friends and enjoy a morning out and an art project. Our instructor will guide you step by step from a blank canvas to a finished masterpiece! All materials will be provided & no experience is necessary.
Arrive 15-20 min early to get in your seat! Our studio is for our painters only. Everyone needs a paid seat to stay on premises during all classes. You are invited to bring your own finger foods in case you get hungry during the break. These classes are offered through Kannapolis Arts/DKI and Kannapolis Parks and Recreation Department.

Beginning Sewing — Throw Pillow (June 17 class)

Ever wanted to learn to sew? Come join this beginners sewing class. All materials will be provided. If you have you own machine, please bring it – only a few machines will be provided. This class will be taught by Wanda Gordon as a part of the Kannapolis Arts Program.

Call to Artists: Aug. 26 Kannapolis Arts Zombie Walk and Arts Festival

The second annual Kannapolis Arts Zombie Walk and Arts Festival is set for 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 26 in downtown Kannapolis.

The 2nd annual Kannapolis Arts Zombie Walk and Arts Festival kicks off at 4 p.m. and will feature performances by the Stray Cat Sideshow troupe with fire eating and sword swallowing; music by David Domingo and Co. as well as local “haunts” and hearses provided by the Reaper’s Rides hearse club. The festival will also feature entertainment from the Queens of D’Nile Studio belly dance troupe!

Come celebrate “Halloween” early with the festival, which will include people dressing up in costume to get into the Halloween spirit and at 7:30 p.m. will feature a zombie walk around the North Carolina Research Campus.

In the past, the festival has been on West Avenue, but with the road improvements underway during the festival the event has been moved across the street to Research Campus Drive, which is essentially an “extension” of West Avenue.

It is FREE to attend the festival as a patron and just $10 to set up as a vendor.
