Occasionally, I have a dream about an extra, abandoned room in my house that doesn’t really exist. It’s a cold, dank, dimly lit space with good possibilities. Every time I dream about this room, I’m so shocked that I keep forgetting about it, especially when I need the extra space. I start coming up with new plans and ideas. Looking around, I see things that I started from the last dream are still there waiting for me to finish.

Unfortunate Event Numero Uno
When I graduated from high school, the only thing I knew for certain, was that I really loved art. I researched colleges all over the country. I secretly had my heart set on one down in Georgia. Those dreams came to a halt when I realized the difference in expense for an out-of-state college paired with my mother’s intense desire for me to remain close by. Ultimately I was accepted into UNC Charlotte, only about an hour away from my home town. The summer before college began I was a whirl wind of nervous energy. I had no idea where I would end up or what I would do there.
The Mystery of Inspiration
Several weeks ago, the first lines of this poem entered my mind. I wasn’t sure of the reason or who’s voice i was hearing, but I knew I had to write this down before it was just a passing thought. Sadly, a few weeks later, my best friend’s grandmother passed away. I felt the need to share this poem with my best friend’s mother, and she just had a look of awe on her face as she told me it sounded like this was written about her mother. Since then, I’ve added the last two stanzas and would like this to be dedicated in her memory.
